When the heart knows, it knows: Sonia and Tarak

Sonia and Tarak's love story is a testament to finding a home of trust and friendship in each other

We grew up watching these fantastical fairytales where lovers' lives are all rosy before they embark on their happily ever after journey. But the real world doesn't work like that, does it?

Relationships need work and effort. Distance is tough to navigate. Opinions are conflicting and how to forget what temperature should the air conditioner be set at?

But one thing that is common between those fairytales and modern-day stories is that when love happens, it brings with itself a warm breeze that feels like home, that no border or boundary can ever restrict.

And the truth shall always be, 'when the heart knows, it knows.' And that is what Sonia and Tarak's love story looks like, a love so sure transcending all borders.

Sonia grew up in the UK where her father had moved in his 20s and met her mother. Born in a Gujarati family, Tarak's family migrated from Zambia to Canada when he was 11. Both of them living in different parts of the world were leading distinct lives until one random day during Covid.

Sonia slid into Tarak's DMS and the rest is history. They started facetiming each other 5-6 hours every day. Tarak flew over to see her in London a month after. Sonia had envisioned Tarak to be shorter but to her surprise, he was much taller and looked great.

For Tarak, its the spark between them as being like- minded people with similar interests. And most pertinently, their common love for chicken wings.

Tarak proposed Sonia in London just five days before Christmas. Though it wasn't planned at all, Sonia got nails done just in case! She booked a nice dinner place but Tarak proposed on a walk. He started saying cute things and Sonia was all perplexed until he got on one knee and proposed.

Cut to their Jaggo ceremony, with Sonia on the stage observing some rituals and Tarak clicking her photos. That moment just like many others during that night was reminiscent of a quote from Normal People (Sally Rooney), "We could be in a room full of people and my eyes would always meet his, just to find that he had already been looking."

There was a spark in their eyes, a glitter that could hold many comfortable silences. And we shall dare not argue as "the eyes chico, they never lie."

But the path of love never always run smooth. They too had their share of obstacles. There was a time when they weren't sure about it as the move and long distance was challenging especially in February 2022.

Sonia went back on the dating apps only to realize that there wasn't anyone she clicked with the way she did with Tarak. And that there is no point in being with someone just because they are from the same city as you.

You need to put effort to sustain your relationships. Their journey is a profound example of how when it is the right one, it is worth putting all that effort.

I wish when love crosses our paths, it looks as pristine and honest as them

With never-ending laughter and dancing through nights

Blurring boundaries, navigating through new zones and times

This is Sonia and Tarak's Tale. Where eyes talk and love binds.
